This month we sipped a sweet linger abiso port while diving into The Other Black Girl by Delia Harris. The book? Intriguing premise, but confusing pacing, messy flashbacks, and an ending that left us scratching our heads.

The 2023 TV adaptation, though, nailed it. Eight episodes filled in the gaps, sharpened the conspiracy plot, and leaned into the deeper themes—Black hair politics, workplace microaggressions, and the pressure to conform. The “Hair Club” storyline especially hit home.

We loved the casting (shoutout to Bellamy Young and even Colin’s scarf!) and the on-screen chemistry made it fun to watch. Sadly, no Season 2 is coming, but the adaptation still gets a “full glass” from all of us.

Verdict: power through the book if you must, but don’t miss the series. 🍷
